Between Reality and Fable; a Retrospective

Martin and Sandra Bright have resided in Bracknell for more than fifty years and we are delighted to stage this retrospective showcasing their ongoing contribution to the arts at South Hill Park.

Sandra’s work centres on illustration and is frequently inspired by nursery rhymes, poems and folktales – stories whose original meanings have often shifted or faded through generations of retelling. Her imagery often features strong anthropomorphic elements, creating works with an undercurrent of both fantasy and quiet menace.

Martin’s paintings seek to recreate an abstracted reality. Often based on photographs, his work explores personal themes such as his local environment and his long-standing love of jazz. He is particularly interested in capturing overlooked or superfluous details revealing the richness of the everyday world.
