This course is designed for painters with a basic understanding of oil portraiture who want to develop a more personal and contemporary approach to portrait painting. Through guided studio practice, tutor demonstrations, and group critique, students will explore composition, colour, painterly techniques, and stylistic experimentation while working towards a resolved final portrait.
Using contemporary portrait painters as a starting point, the course encourages participants to refine their technical skills while developing their own visual language and artistic direction within a supportive studio environment.
Led by artist and curator Hubbah Choudhry, who holds a BA in Fine Art and an MA in Contemporary Art Theory, the course draws on both contemporary painting practice and critical engagement with portraiture. Hubbah’s own work explores identity, culture, and memory through oil painting, alongside experience working within curatorial and exhibition settings.
