OCTOBER NEWSLETTER 2024

November 20, 2024

JINGLE YOUR WAY TO OUR MOST POPULAR PANTOMIME
This week, there was a buzz of excitement as the panto cast and crew gathered for their first read-through of the script. They did a jolly good job of bringing their characters to life. The anticipation is truly spreading as tickets are disappearing faster than mince pies at a family gathering. Mark your calendars and join us for a rip-roaring adventure with Robin Hood and his Merry Crew. Running from Fri 29 Nov 2024 – Sun 5 Jan 2025. Watch the teaser trailer here. You can book tickets here.

OUR PANTO NEEDS YOU
We are looking for a part-time laundry and costume maintenance supervisor for our upcoming Robin Hood pantomime. If you’re a wizard with a washing machine and a master of mending tights, then you’re a perfect fit. The hours are flexible and start from Mon 25 Nov 2024 – 5 Jan 2025.
If you’re interested in being a hero of the wardrobe department, please email programming@nullsouthhillpark.org.uk for further details.

UNIQUE SPACES UNLOCK UNIQUE STORIES
Our intimate Studio Theatre allows for producers and theatrical community groups to tell fresh, challenging and exciting stories. We sat down with Luke Burton to hear what it was like injecting love, energy and passion into a previously under-utilised space, which you can watch here. You can also read Luke’s story here. Your membership directly impacts our ability to provide these unique spaces. We are able to support emerging artists and technicians to tell stories whilst also creating opportunities for meaningful community connection. You are South Hill Park.

THEATRES TRUST AWARD
The Theatres Trust announced their Small Grants Programme with The Linbury Trust, and we were grateful to be one of the recipients. The grant of £3,703 has enabled us to update the sound and lighting in the Cellar Bar with higher quality equipment and waterproof LEDs. We are excited to have been able to implement these updates in one of our very special spaces in our venue. We hope performers, their crew and audiences alike will benefit from and enjoy the improvements – TONY JAMES, TECHNICAL MANAGER.

IMPACT THROUGH ART
One of the ways we provide art opportunities to our local community is through our outreach projects. With the support of an arts grant from Wellington College and in association with the Foundry College, we held a spray-painting workshop for pupils with medical needs, who cannot attend school regularly, and pupils who have been permanently excluded. Taught by a professional art tutor, we helped the students gain access to a visual art topic of their choice and gain valuable skills. To find out more about our outreach work, and how you can get involved, please visit our website here.

FESTIVE CLOTHING WANTED
During the Craft and Design Fair 2024, we will be selling pre-loved Christmas clothing. We are still needing a few more items, in good condition. Please donate if you can via the Box Office by Fri 8 Nov. We are also fortunate to be participating in the Easthampstead Rotary Club Christmas Community Draw, so come ready to purchase your raffle tickets to be in with the chance to win up to £500!

ROLL OUT THE CARPET
For the past few years, we’ve been raising funds to replace our carpet that has been well trodden. The time has come for it to retire gracefully. Thanks to the generous 125 Years Community Fund from Morrisons and our previous donors, we’re now halfway there. However, we need your help to meet the full cost. If you’re feeling generous, please donate or spread the word to anyone who might be interested. We don’t want this fundraising initiative to get swept under the carpet! Please get in touch with our Box Office or drop us an email at fundraising@nullsouthhillpark.org.uk to be a part of this carpet crusade.

VISIT US AT THE LEXICON
On Sat 2 Nov we will be out in the Lexicon Shopping Centre in front of Waterstones. We will be publicising our festive pantomime, Robin Hood and The Magic Arrow, and promoting the good work we do here at your Local Arts Centre. If you happen to be out shopping, stop by to say a quick hello, we’d love to see you.

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL ARTS CENTRE
Don’t forget you can always support us (at no extra cost to you) as you shop online via the easyfundraising scheme. Simply sign up and shop away.
