South Hill Park is delighted to be supporting Bracknell Film Society’s monthly dementia-friendly screenings in our cinema. With funding from Film Hub South East and expert advice from Bracknell Dementia Action Alliance, the film society has organised 12 film shows especially designed to enrich the lives of those living with dementia and their carers.
Starting with a warm welcome, these advert-free relaxed screenings encourage the audience to participate, the lights are left up a little and there’s a short interval for a break and an ice-cream! A film-linked memento and postcard are handed to each audience member to provide a talking point about the event and evoke positive memories.
Complimentary refreshments after each screening encourage social interaction in a relaxed and friendly setting. All staff and volunteers are trained Dementia Friends. Films shown so far include Blue Hawaii, Grease and Summer Holiday and have provided an enjoyable and entertaining afternoon for almost 100 people. Feedback has been very positive:
- brought back lovely memories of courting at the pictures
- a really feel-good afternoon
- it was great having someone in the car park to guide us in
- the freedom to sing and swing was wonderful
- the signage made it easy for us to find our way around
Afternoon screenings start at 2pm on the second Monday of each month and continue with GI Blues on Mon 14 Aug.
