Roald Dahl’s The Magic Finger – Auditions

The Magic Finger

South Hill Park is looking for community actors to take part in Roald Dahl’s The Magic Finger (a UK Premier of this production), which is being directed by Joe Malyan (Peter Pan 2016, The Borrowers 2015, Naughts and Crosses 2011) with the set being designed by Victoria Spearing.

This is a family production aimed at children aged 3+, taking place in Half-Term with performances running from Thursday 27 – Saturday 29 October.

Character Breakdown

Lucy – female.  Aged 16-25.  Lucy is the female protagonist.  Strong actor required, experience of working on children’s shows preferable.

Mrs Gregg – female.  Aged 35-50.  Mrs Gregg is a farmer’s wife, mother of William.  Strong actor required, with experience of working on children’s shows preferable.

Mrs Winter/Mrs Duck – female.  Aged 30-50.  Multi-role part.  Mrs Winter is a school teacher, and Mrs Duck is the mother to three ducklings, and husband to Mr Duck.  Strong actor required, with experience of working on children’s shows preferable.  Puppet skills useful.

William Gregg – male.  Aged 16-25.  William is the male protagonist.  Son of Mr and Mrs Gregg, and friend of Lucy.  Strong actor required, experience of working on children’s shows preferable.

Mr Gregg – male.  Aged 35-50.  Mr Gregg is a farmer, father of William, husband of Mrs Gregg.  Strong actor required, experience of working on children’s shows preferable.

Master Duck/Litterbug/Dog – male.  Aged 16-25.  Multi-role part.  Mr Duck is the husband of Mrs Duck and father of Master Duck.  Strong actor required, with experience of working on children’s shows preferable.  Puppet skills useful.

Dog Owner/Mr Duck – male.  Aged 30-40.  Multi-role part.  Mr Duck is the husband of Mrs Duck and father of Master Duck.  Strong actor required, with experience of working on children’s shows preferable.  Puppet skills useful.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE ARE SOME MATINEE WEEKDAY PERFORMANCES, SO PLEASE DO NOT AUDITION IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO COMMIT TO THESE DAYS/TIMES.

Auditions are by appointment, each lasting 15 minutes.  Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your allocated audition time, which will be given to you once you have emailed the contact below, along with a copy of the script extracts you need to prepare for the audition.  Please also prepare a monologue lasting 2-3 minutes.

Audition Date

Monday 1 August – Recital Room, South Hill Park from 6pm-10pm by appointment.

Rehearsal Dates

Rehearsals will take place on Tuesday evenings and Saturday daytime’s (possibly some Sunday evenings as well, given the shorter rehearsal period).  Starting on 29 August and running through until production week.

29 August – Read-through

10 September – 22 October – Rehearsals

Monday 24 – Wednesday 26 August – Production week

PLEASE DO NOT AUDITION IF YOU CANNOT COMMIT TO THE ENTIRE REHEARSAL AND PRODUCTION PERIOD. CANDIDATES WHO AUDITION WHO CAN THEN NOT MAKE ALL DATES MAY NOT BE CONSIDERED.
