Wilde About Arts (7-10yrs)

Wilde About Arts is a free term time arts programme, designed for children aged 7-10 yrs who have lived experience of being a young carer. We provide the space for students to just be themselves for the few hours they are with us, while exploring all different kinds of art.

Open to young people aged 7 – 10 who meet the ‘young carer’ description.

Are you a young carer?

A young carer is someone under 18 who cares for a friend or family member who, due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction, cannot cope without their support.

What might a young carer do?

– Practical tasks, like cooking, housework and shopping
– Physical care, such as helping someone out of bed
– Emotional support, including talking to someone who is distressed
– Personal care, such as helping someone dress
– Managing the family budget and collecting prescriptions
– Helping to give medicine
– Helping someone communicate
– Looking after brothers and sisters

The free-to-attend sessions offer a safe space for young carers to experience all aspects of artistic expression with a group of peers who understand the circumstances they may face at home.

The course is designed to allow all participants to embrace all kinds of artistic projects. Past projects have included: soap making, candle making, book binding and kite making. We try to embrace any ideas or projects students might want to have a go at, providing the equipment, resources and teaching to help them see the art of what’s possible.

Wilde About Arts will explore various elements of the visual arts on a termly basis. Each term, the class will work together on projects. Team work, togetherness, creativity and expression will be at the heart of this class.
