A brand-new documentary, by Alex Harvey-Brown, exploring the rich history of South Hill Park, on the anniversary of its 50th year as an arts centre. The film embarks on a journey, stretching back to the intriguing and sometimes somber beginnings of the building, progressing through its rebellious heydays in the 70s and 80s, highlighting the cultural impact of the arts movement across the UK and addressing the contemporary challenges it faces today. It explores:
• The history of the manor house as a home to prime ministers and as a hospital in war time
• Its transformation as an arts centre with the development of Bracknell as a new town
• The days as a national venue for festivals, music and comedy
• Highlights the importance of South Hill Park and arts centres in general to communities and how they should be cherished for future generations
It has been a labour of love to produce this documentary, and something of a love letter to a place I hold dear in my heart. It was a springboard for my career and that of so many others – Alex Harvey-Brown
