Pop-punk superfans Smash the Silence are bringing their take on the iconic sounds of 2000s punk rock to the Cellar Bar for the first time in May. You’ll hear everything from legends like blink-182, Green Day, and The Offspring to the bands they inspired like All Time Low, We The Kings, and Sum 41, as well as a few surprises.
The band has been playing together since 2023 and taking everything from pub showcases to open mic nights, and even weddings, by storm. Smash the Silence marks the second collaboration for lead vocalist, and self-confessed Green Day obsessive, Polly Sharp and drummer and vocalist James Parry.
The pair previously blew the roof off venues from High Wycombe to the nearby Acoustic Couch with rock and alternative covers group Chasing Violet.
“Cellar Bar is actually where I played my gig in my first ever band 20 years ago, so I’m really excited to be back,” said James. “Something about these songs makes them hit just as hard today as they ever did, and they are just so much fun to play.
“If it gets to the end of the night and you’ve not caught yourself singing along even once, something’s gone very wrong.”
Bassist and live show veteran Andy Beardmore hit stages across the country for years with Victorian Whore Dogs, while Ben Mallinson, who completes the line-up on guitar, is already taking to the spotlight like a punk rocker to a mosh pit, despite this being his first ever band.
So get ready to turn up the nostalgia as you’re transported back to the era of skateboarding, brightly-coloured spiky hair, and teenage break-ups with Smash the Silence for a night of hyperactive punk rock.
