Argentine composer and pianist Oscar Edelstein brings South Hill Park his avant-garde concert Bitácoras. Performing on his “un-classic” piano, he is joined by tapes, texts and multimedia elements from Welsh artist Deborah Claire Procter.
Edelstein is renowned for blending popular, classical, and contemporary styles, making his music both innovative and hard to define. Bitácoras – Spanish for “binnacle,” the logbook of a sea voyage- symbolizes a record of artistic exploration. Considered a key figure in Latin American contemporary music, Edelstein’s work has been compared to Cecil Taylor, Zappa, King Crimson, Cage, Piazzolla, and more. Yet, as he says, originality and a deep Latin American identity – rich with paradox, passion, and politics – matter most.
This recital is a tribute to the art of the score, where music, poetry, and notation weave a timeless journey – one that shapes the only reality that matters.
