The Wilde Theatre School

Wilde Ways – Just Drama 11-14 yrs

Creative. Social. Experience.

South Hill Park’s Wilde Ways is a unique youth theatre experience, working with two experienced and knowledgeable theatre practitioners, the group choose at the start of the term to either make a piece from scratch (devised theatre) or work on a published play text. In this class, students will learn key industry skills and not just acting technique and terminology but how to work as a team to generate exciting and compelling theatre.

These sessions are fun and fast-paced and are perfect for students who are thinking of taking or currently studying a GCSE or B-TECH programme in a performing arts subject or for students with an interest in drama.

Sessions are often split into three parts, games to get us warmed up, drama exercises to explore new ways of working and rehearsal.

Get the most from your youth theatre booking. Did you know that as a member of youth theatre students are entitled to £5 tickets to see most shows* staged at South Hill Park! Students also entitled to one free one-to-one session per term to help them prepare for any upcoming auditions they may have at school or in the industry.

Half term is Monday 22 – Sunday 28 October

Showcase performance in the Wilde Theatre tbc.

Good afternoon – my 12 year old daughter is interested in taking some ‘acting’ classes. Would she be able to come along for a trial before committing to the whole term?
Thanks

Dear Angela,
Yes that’s fine your daughter can attend the first week as a trial and if she enjoys the session can then sign up for the 10 weeks.
Kind regards

Hi Lisa, thanks for your enquiry. Yes, your daughter can come to the session on the 19th September. All children’s and young people’s Dance and Theatre courses offer a no obligation ‘Try Before You Buy’ first session. If you then wish to continue the course for the complete term then the trial session and subsequent classes must be paid for in full. If you don’t wish to continue then this session is free of charge. You can call the Box Office on 01344 484123 to make sure the course still has spare places. Hope this helps.

Hi do you have any drama classes for young people aged 15 +
Thanks

Hi Julie. Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, at the moment, we don’t run any courses that are fully drama focused for young people aged 15yrs and over. We have had the Actors Lab in the past which was a course designed to give students the tools to be a modern actor. However, this is on hiatus for our current season but should be back for the summer. in the meantime, there are the Eleven Seventeen (a youth club involving music, drama and dance) and Wilde About Arts (visual arts projects) courses that may be of interest.

Good afternoon my daughter would be interested in attending this theatre group, but unfortunately can’t do this term. could you let me know if this will be running again in the January and how I can sign my daughter on to it.
Many thanks

Hi Claire. Thanks for your enquiry. The Wilde Ways course usually runs every season so should certainly be returning in January (probably in the second week of the new year). The new brochure will be out around the 26 November so new courses will be able to be booked at that point (or a bit earlier for members). You could either call the Box Office on 01344 484123 or visit the Youth Courses section of our website at https://www.southhillpark.org.uk/create/creativeyouth/ to make your booking. Hope this helps!

Hi My 11 year old son is interested in joining the class.. could he come for a trial after harm term if possible?

Hi Megan. Although the youth drama classes do offer a free ‘try before you buy’ first session, we are already half way through the current term for courses. It is probably best to wait until the beginning of the new term in January and let your son go to the first session which will be on Wed 16 Jan. This session is designed for people starting the course and new students looking to try drama for the first time, whereas any session after half term would be part-way through the exercises being taught for the end of term showcase (and thus a bit confusing for someone new). Hope this helps.
