Jewellery and Silversmithing for Beginners
Students will learn a variety of metalworking skills and processes enabling them to design and make their own jewellery and silverware. Suitable for beginners. New students only.
Grant started making jewellery 30 years ago attending adult education classes to expand his knowledge and skills. It was not until he hit 48 when he stopped his career in Industrial catering management and went to University and gained a degree in product design graduating in 2017 at the ripe old age of 51 and has taught fine metal work since in a variety of venues including the university he graduated from helping students through the pewter live competition gaining a number of first, seconds, thirds and industry prizes. He designs and makes his own silver and gold jewellery selling his work locally in galleries, craft shows and exhibitions as well as more national recognised shows in London and the South East. His style of teaching is to encourage creativity and design, exploring of the materials, teaching basic techniques. He says ‘to me there is no right or wrong in fine metal work just techniques, each one can be manipulated or refined to create a look specific to the maker. We are too hung up on the ‘right’ way and although we can and do teach ‘correct’ methods to avoid disaster I am all for happy accidents and exploring new avenues.’ Website: http://grantforsythjewellery.com/
