Sandy Lane School goes ‘Wilde’ in partnership with South Hill Park Arts Centre

April 4, 2018

To celebrate South Hill Park’s Easter production, DreamWorks Madagascar – A Musical Adventure, the Arts Centre invited Sandy Lane Primary School to create and display Madagascar-inspired artwork in the Wilde Theatre Foyer.

On Thursday 29 March, children and teachers from the school met The Worshipful Mayor of the Borough of Bracknell Forest Councillor Mrs Tina McKenzie-Boyle for a preview of their new art exhibition. There was also a surprise visit from King Julien (Michael Aiyotis) to entertain the children.

A range of artwork linked to the venue’s in-house production has been developed for the foyer, which involved every year group. Creations included colourful landscapes, Madagascan masks, and papier-mâché penguins.

KS1 Phase Lead James Rawson, who helped coordinate the exhibition, expressed his delight in working on the project, “The children were really excited, and the teaching staff thrilled to see how engaged they were, it really did spark their imaginations and we are very proud of what they have achieved. By creating a public art exhibition we were given a unique opportunity to reach far wider than the school community. The children have been looking forward to seeing their artwork on display and showing it to their friends and family. The school is keen to promote creativity within the curriculum, so to be involved with our local arts venue helps the children explore their creative sides, engage with the local community and encourage those who may consider a creative future career.”

South Hill Park Executive Director, Craig Titley

“A local arts centre is much more than a building that puts on plays. We believe the arts play a vital role in the lives of everyone in our community and in particular the young. Working with Sandy Lane Primary School in this way has been a privilege and I am sure visitors to South Hill Park will enjoy looking at and talking about the young people’s marvellous creations.”

Foyer Exhibition

The Sandy Lane Primary School exhibition will be on display in the Wilde Theatre Foyer from Good Friday 30 March until 30 April 2018. South Hill Park Arts Centre and Wilde Theatre would like to thank all the children and teachers who made this exhibition such a welcoming environment for theatre visitors.

South Hill Park’s production DreamWorks Madagascar – A Musical Adventure opens on Wed 11 April until Sun 15 April 2018. Limited tickets are available online at or from the Box Office on 01344 484123.
