Notes from the Fringe
– a series of blog posts from SHP’s CEO, Ron McAllister –

Day 1 – Saturday 20th August:  Travel to Edinburgh

Spending the day travelling by train with a nice Waitrose picnic (other picnic providers are available!) and planning shows to see….quite complicated! 😖

Avoided a few potential clashes by moving the schedule around. 👍 . My daughter is accompanying me this year so it’s nice to have someone to discuss what the best shows are likely to be. At the moment neither of us have seen many reviews so we have open minds.

There’s a comedian called Keiran Hodgson who has written a show called “Maestro” about falling in love and trying to write a symphony (!) which might be a good way to get the ball rolling tonight – but first we will have to sort out our digs (university halls – should be a safe bet) – then walk into town to complete industry registration before 8pm and collect some tickets. We will need to grab some food before seeing our first show at 9.30pm and then after that I’ll introduce my daughter to some of my colleagues from other venues ( isn’t she a lucky girl!)

Will get a reasonably early night ( guessing midnight) before the big arts industry Sunday morning bun fight tomorrow morning at 10am (quite a civilised start time – I’m sure it was earlier in previous years!) I’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow.

Just been told that we are experiencing an “unadvisable” delay somewhere near Berwick because of an overheating axel box (that’s a new one). Oh well let’s hope we get moving again soon.

Best wishes from the quiet coach of the (stationary) northbound train!
