Waitrose Partners go Wilde at SHP

March 2, 2015

A group of eighteen Partners from the Waitrose Marketing Department helped their local community last week by spending a morning painting the foyer of our Wilde Theatre. The group volunteered their services as part of their team day, after looking into how they could support a local charity.

Mike Williams, Manager Content & POS said, “It was a fun project to get involved in, and we were glad to be able to help South Hill Park. With eighteen of us painting, everyone got stuck in, and it didn’t take long to complete the foyer rails, doors and ground floor walls. I think everyone really enjoyed it!”

Tina Varns, Community, Sustainability and Ethical Sourcing Manager at Waitrose, is a huge supporter of South Hill Park. She recently opened a new performance space at the Arts Centre, the Wilde Upstairs. The former bar area had been refurbished thanks to a generous £10,000 donation from the Waitrose community fund.

Varns expresses her opinion on volunteering by saying, “There’s so much that businesses can achieve when they’re working together, and volunteering is such an important part of what Waitrose do. We support our staff to volunteer for local good causes and by 2017 Waitrose Partners across the business will have volunteered for 11,000 full working weeks, all while receiving full pay.”
