South Hill Park springs alive with a day of FREE music and performing arts.
The Big Day Out is a celebration of local and international talents. The gardens will hum with promenade bands, samba drummers, shadow puppeteers, searing pyrotechnics, hip-swivelling salsa dancers and big band jazz players.
TERRACE STAGE
A packed programme of multi-cultural arts in promenade and on the stage. Highlights include Terrace favourites and folk-rockers Warblefly, the big-band jazz sounds of Pendulum, salsa flavours from Manteca, Brazilian percussion from Easthampstead Park School Samba Band, The Tongues of Fire street band, exuberant Ghanaian hi-life band Bessa and the Punjabi Folk Company’s Dhol Drummers and Dancers.
BEER TENT
Discover fresh new talent from our regular club nights, Unplugged & Intimate and Cellar Bar Blues. Plus The Ding Dong Daddios and Gypsy Jazz who will keep the party swinging through the evening.
CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES
Inflatables, circus, face-painting and Samba percussion workshops plus the Big Day Out’s finale event 'Burning Ambition’ includes children’s activities throughout the day.
DIGITAL ARTS
Soundtoys in the Cinema
Interact with an exciting 3-screen environment of projected and amplified audio visual works from the "Transigence" exhibition curated by sountoys.net and supported by WATERSHED.
FINALE
A spectacular and innovative pyrotechnic show, BURNING AMBITION, in the Italian Gardens brought to you by Spoken In The Wheel, Elemental Arts and our resident theatre company, Demonstrate.
Participate in the show by joining the FREE workshops throughout the day leading up to and forming elements of the event. Workshops are from 12noon to 5pm in the Courtyard.
CLUB NIGHT
Ska Cubano + The Punjabi Folk Club Dhol Drummers
The party carries on in the Wilde Theatre with a special music event. Ska Cubano, a delirious explosion of Jamaican street sass and Cuban exuberance hooks up with one of the UK's most innovative club DJ’s, DJ Cliffy of Batucumba/Future World Funk fame for a night of non-stop party tunes in a club atmosphere.
