Creative with Clay – Mixed Abilities
Tutor: Artist in Residence – Karen Marks
Creative with Clay is designed for beginners or those returning to ceramics who wish to refresh or refine their making processes.
The aim of this workshop is to give learners an opportunity to master the basic fundamental techniques of hand building such as pinching, coiling and slab building. Towards the end of the course there will be the opportunity to learn how to create a piece of work thrown on the wheel.
Using a variety of clays you will make a range of work and to complement the finished forms you will explore a range of surface decoration techniques including slips, underglazes and glazes.
Each process and technique will first be demonstrated followed by learners working on their own pieces with tutor support and guidance.
Students are strongly encouraged to bring along any sources of inspiration, such as magazine cut outs, which will aid in the progress of your ideas and assist the tutor in tailoring the course to individual needs.
A small charge will be made for completed and fired work (£2.00 per Ib).
Please remember to wear clothes and shoes appropriate for the activities undertaken.
Half term is Monday 23 – Sunday 29 October
Please note that once this course has begun bookings can only be taken at the box office or by calling 01344 484123.
