Celebrating a Year of Dementia Friendly Screenings

March 8, 2018

South Hill Park celebrates the one year anniversary since the launch of the monthly Dementia Friendly Screenings. A big thank you to Bracknell Film Society, many willing volunteers, Bracknell Forest Dementia Action Alliance and all those visitors who have taken part in these fun afternoon screenings.

Since March 2017, Bracknell Film Society has managed a project to bring these special film screenings to Bracknell and has seen audiences grow steadily for classic titles such as Singin’ in the Rain, Calamity Jane and Grease.

Julia Vickers, Chair of Bracknell Film Society said: “The film society worked tirelessly to design and set up these film shows in collaboration with dementia experts. It has been a real pleasure to widen the enjoyment of film to include people living with dementia, and get to know our regular audience members. It’s testament to South Hill Park’s community-orientated values that the dementia-friendly film programme continues, fully supported by Bracknell Film Society and our lovely team of dedicated volunteers.”

We have received some fabulous feedback from attendees and their carers, and we look forward to supporting the dementia community with more screenings this year.

“Superb experience; brought back lovely memories of courting at the pictures.”

“The freedom to sing and swing was wonderful.”

“It brought back memories of childhood and music – I hadn’t realised these musicals were such an influence on me.”

“It is wonderful you are putting these on – you have the films just right and we really appreciate the opportunity to get out and have a tea / coffee afterwards.”

To find out what films are coming up in the Dementia Friendly screenings pick up a flyer or visit our website.
